$10 Million Stem Cell Grant
The
University of Washington was awarded a $10 million program project grant to study human embryonic stem cell biology. The five-year project is led by Tony Blau (Medicine/Hematology) and includes Carol Ware (Comparative Medicine), Tom Reh (Biological Structure), Randy Moon (Pharmacology), Hannele Ruohola-Baker (Biochemistry) and
Chuck Murry, UW Medicine Professor and Director of the UW Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. The goal of the grant is to understand basic mechanisms regulating the pluripotent state and to define pathways that cells use in differentiation. It also has a training program that will enable scientists to learn how to work with human embryonic stem cells and conduct pilot studies.
