Medical Students
The UW School of Medicine is committed to providing the highest quality educational experience possible for its students and to reach out to the needs of the five state WWAMI region which includes Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. The Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine share this vision with faculty and resident involvement in the required and elective courses available to medical students.
First and second year medical students are required to take two pathology courses - HUBIO520 Molecular Analysis of Human Disease and HUBIO546 Systemic Pathology. Third and fourth year medical students have opportunities for electives and clerkships to further their interests in a career in pathology. The Intersociety Committee on Pathology Information, Inc. provides an online booklet that discusses the options available to student who are interested in a career in pathology.
Students outside of the University of Washington may be eligible for a visiting clerkship at one of our training sites. The application process is described in detail on the Visitor Programs webpage.
