Accreditation

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has accredited our Pathology Residency Training program for more than twenty years. As in the past, our program received full accreditation at the last review by the AGCME.

   Board Qualification

Our program focuses on the successful training of the resident pathologist. In addition to structured training, the American Board of Pathology requires one year of "clinical training, clinical experience, or clinically related research" before applicants are board qualified.. This "credential" year requirement can be satisfied by such training as 1) a clinical internship or 2) completion of a Ph.D. in a biomedical field. In our program you can meet your "credential" year in several ways.

    Combined Anatomic/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) Certification
Four full years of accredited AP/CP training is required. We meet this requirement by providing 48 months of training in anatomic and clinical pathology. For those individuals who ne ed a "fifth year" of training to satisfy the "credential y ear" requirement, we have a variety of advanced level training positions in anatomic and clinical pathology. Since we have a wide variety of senior level training positions, w e are confident that a "5th year training position" will be avail able for each interested resident to satisfy training requirements of the American Board of Pathology.

Straight Anatomic or Clinical Pathology Certification
Each track requires 24 months of anatomic or clinical pathology training, an additional 12 months of anatomic or clinical pathology or subspecialty training, and a "credential" year. As with the combined program, we offer many senior level opportunities to meet this requirement.

Residents who join our program with one year of credited experience have the option of applying to us for a one-year increase in salary level when you begin our program. You must receive credit from the American Board of Pathology by October 1 of your first year to be eligible for the higher salary.
