Registration for Clinical Research Services

A study is clinical research when it involves the processing of fresh human specimen and the results of the research study are being included in the patient’s medical record. When this is the case, the researcher will need to contact the Clinical Research Budget & Billing Support Office (CRBB) at (206) 598-9490 or visit their website. The study is then assigned a AAA number enabling our department to bill the study as if it were a patient. Billing is captured via Patient Financial Services system and CRBB processes the invoice and payment.

Registration for Non-Clinical Research Services

All non-clinical research studies using pathology services must be registered with the UW Medicine Pathology Non-Clinical Anatomic Pathology Research Registration Form. This form will give us pertinent information regarding each study, pathology services to be used, and contact information. There is a one time registration fee of $20 for each new study.

When requesting non-clinical research services, please submit the following:
Please note, all pathology materials (including block and slides) must be approved by an attending pathologist before they are sent out. It is the responsibility of the researcher to make arrangements for a University of Washington Medical Center/Harborview Medical Center pathologist to review and approve requested materials prior to submitting a registration form.

Once all information has been received, the study will be issued a research number (Example HMC RH123 or UWMC R123) and you will be contacted by email with number and Anatomic Pathology Research Work Order/Price List form for ordering. Now our labs will be able to process your requests.

Please notify Pathology of any budget number changes. Change of budget number does not require a new registration number. However, if you have a new IRB #, re-registration is required.
