Xiulan Yang, Research Scientist
Personal Statement:
Xiulan studied neural development in the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Science during her graduate education. She moved to the University of South Alabma in Mobile to study the cardioprotective mechanisms of ischemic preconditioning and hypothermia under the mentorship of Dr. James M. Downey. In 2012, Xiulan joined the Murry Laboratory in the University of Washington. Xiulan is now specifically interested in maturation of cardiomyocytes-derived from human pluripotent stem cells and the electro-mechanical integration between human cardiomyocyte grafts and host animal hearts.
