The mission of our laboratory is to understand the mechanism of aging and age-related disorders.
Among more than 400 proposed mechanisms of aging, we investigate the genetic contribution on the aging process. Study of the cell aging has a long history, and we continue to work on the question of how cells in our body have the limited lifespan.  In addition, we choose to work on the two genetic disorders, one a brain disorder, Alzheimer disease, and the other a systematic disorder, Werner syndrome. Both of them are progressive disorder simulating old individuals.
Our original hypothesis was that damages to the cellular component, such as DNA, accumulate in time and results in the decline of the various body functions.  Though DNA damage is one of the important causes, we come to recognize the complexity of the aging process.
It will be a long time before we full understand why and how we age, and even longer time to bring this knowledge to the human applications.  We believe that our work will bring the basis for the future to the well being of the next generations.
